Everyday Gal/Racial Equity Trainer
Wendy McConnell is an organizer and trainer with the Racial Equity Institute (REI). In early 2016, Wendy launched her independent examination of racial inequality. This intentional dive catapulted her into a deep and lasting reflection of her own interaction with race and resulted in her organizing for greater racial awareness. She founded Race Together where a multiracial team of professionals presented information in her county on structural racism. She returned to school to pursue a greater understanding of our social structures and subsequently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a minor in Communication Studies. Based in North Carolina, she serves on the Advisory Team for Racial Equity Cabarrus, Catalyzing Change Cabarrus as well as R.A.C.E. Charlotte. Wendy’s guiding force is to both broaden societal racial consciousness and understanding of structural racism for the purpose of achieving a society where outcomes cannot be predicted by race or ethnicity for the benefit of all.
